FTTH & FTTx Patch Cords for Access Networks

Armored SC/APC patch cords built for FTTH drop and outdoor plant runs — tested per cord, made to your length.

Armored fiber cable cut open showing the metal armour tube and colour-coded fibers

Access networks are where a patch cord takes the most punishment and gets the least attention. A drop cord is installed once and then lives outdoors for years, in a cabinet that someone opens with a knee while holding a fusion splicer. The specification that survives that life is not the same one that works in a rack, and most FTTH failures we see traced back to the field are construction problems rather than optical ones.

What this environment demands

The problems that actually bite here

Rodent damage

In rural and semi-urban FTTH, chewed jackets are the single largest cause of premature failure. A standard LSZH jacket is seconds of work for a rodent; a stainless steel tube is not, and in practice the damage stops at the armour.

Weather and UV exposure

Aerial drops and cabinet links sit in sun, rain and temperature cycling for the life of the network. Jackets harden, and water finds any weak point in the run.

Repeated cabinet and closure work

Street cabinets and closures are opened far more often than a data hall is. Every visit bends, drags and pinches the cords inside, and the damage accumulates quietly.

Installation tension

Drop cords get pulled over duct edges, tied to messenger wire and occasionally stepped on. Those point loads travel straight to the fiber unless the construction spreads them.

Recommended configuration

The configuration we recommend for this environment

Recommended configuration: FTTH & FTTx Patch Cords for Access Networks
SpecificationRecommendation
ConnectorSC (standard for the PON user side); LC available
PolishAPC — the default for GPON and FTTH
Fiber modeSingle mode OS2 (9/125 µm)
StructureSimplex; stainless steel armored for drop and OSP runs
JacketLSZH for cabinets, PE for heavy outdoor duty
Insertion loss≤0.3 dB per cord
Return loss≥60 dB (APC)
Testing100% IL/RL measured; test report shipped with the order
LengthMade to order, roughly 5 m to 100 m+, tolerance agreed

A patch cord does not need a drawing or a sample — send the connector, polish, mode, jacket, length and quantity and we can quote exactly.

Why buy from us

Five things that do not change between projects

Factory-direct supply

You order from the plant, not a trading desk. Our Jiangsu base produces roughly 20 million patch cords a year.

100% IL/RL tested

Every cord is measured for insertion and return loss before packing, with a test report per order.

7-day prototyping

New or custom builds are sampled in about seven days so your schedule is not held hostage.

Custom lengths

Made to order with a tolerance agreed in writing — not the nearest stocked length.

OEM packaging

Your label, your part number and your artwork, so the goods arrive ready for your warehouse.

FAQ

Four questions buyers ask us most

How long can an armored FTTH patch cord be?
We build to order from roughly 5 m up to 100 m and beyond, and we confirm the length tolerance in writing before production. For long runs, tell us how the cord is routed — inside duct, aerial or buried — because the jacket and armour choice changes with it.
APC or UPC for FTTH?
APC. GPON and most PON networks are designed around an 8° angled end face, and mixing APC with UPC damages the UPC side. If your equipment port is UPC, tell us and we will build the hybrid cord you actually need.
What is the minimum order quantity?
It depends on the configuration and the length. We handle trial orders as well as repeat bulk supply, and we will give you a straight MOQ against your specification rather than a blanket number.
What is the lead time?
Pre-production samples typically take 3–7 working days; mass production is normally 7–15 working days depending on quantity and configuration. We confirm the dates in the quotation, not after you order.

Attachments (optional)

Upload a drawing, photo, datasheet or ZIP if you have one. Connector enquiries benefit most; fibre enquiries only need a specification.

Your drawing, photo or sample stays confidential. We sign an NDA on request.
