The problems that actually bite here
Vibration and mechanical stress
Machinery, compressors and moving equipment put cyclic loads on every connection. Strain that a rack never sees becomes normal here, and it works directly on the connector and the fiber behind it.
Crush and impact
Plant floors are crossed by vehicles, pallets and people. A standard cord lying in the wrong place is a few kilos away from a permanent bend — armour spreads that load instead of passing it to the glass.
Chemicals, moisture and temperature
Wash-downs, oils, solvents and wide temperature swings attack the jacket first. Choosing the right jacket compound for the exposure matters more than choosing the cheapest one.
Rodents in remote cabinets
Remote and outdoor cabinets on industrial sites are ideal rodent habitat. Chewed cords are a recurring maintenance cost that armour reduces to near zero.

Four questions buyers ask us most
- Is armor worth the extra cost?
- When the cord is exposed — outdoors, in a cabinet someone opens regularly, on a plant floor or in a rodent area — yes. When it lives in a closed, well-managed rack, standard cords are the sensible choice and we will tell you so.
- What does the armor protect against, and what does it not?
- It protects against rodents, crush and point loads, and it spreads impact. It does not replace a correct bend radius, it is not armour plate — a blade will still cut it — and it does not make a cord suitable for a long buried run, which needs a proper outdoor cable.
- Can you build non-standard connector combinations?
- Yes. Mixed ends (for example SC on one end and LC on the other), FC or ST where a locking coupling is required, and duplex constructions are all routine for us.
- What about MOQ and lead time?
- MOQ depends on the configuration and length; trial orders are welcome. Samples typically take 3–7 working days and mass production 7–15 working days, confirmed in the quotation. If you need a cutaway sample to verify the construction, ask and we will supply one.
